Rahu is the head of the demonic being Svarbhānu, and Ketu is its headless body or tail. This is basically a being whose upper and lower body has been severed or separated. Now since that is the case, and if you look at this from a logical point of view, wouldn’t Svarbhānu want to become “whole” again and integrate the aspects of acting and seeing? Wouldn’t this symbolically imply that there’s a need for balance and harmony, just like the Middle Way of Buddhism? Realizing that both sides of the coin impact each other, it is kind of like the property in physics of matter and anti-matter. If we move towards something in life, there’s always an equal or opposite reaction to everything that we do; breathing in and out; combining both realization and immersion. The ability to merge the dimensions of duality comes from the other planets; especially the two planets that rule the signs that the Nodes occupy. How do Rahu and Ketu function in the signs of the zodiac? Here are my thoughts on this.
Rahu in Aries, Ketu in Libra in the natal chart: indicates an aggression that is shadowed by the native’s need for independence and making a difference or seeking internal individualization. Ketu causes the person to be locked into comparing himself to the average masses, trying to escape the natural order of things. A seeker of the self. Enlightenment comes by realizing that all things are attached to a natural balance of the self vs the other . One cannot completely distance themselves from the other because our social identity is built upon the other. We naturally co-exist with our environment.
Rahu in Taurus, Ketu in Scorpio in the natal chart: trying to find something that the native can call their own or hold onto in a material sense. Typically a traveler, and experiencer of culture. Ketu causes the person to be locked into perpetual change, unable to find something to hang onto. Enlightenment occurs when one realizes that all things are temporary and that it’s impossible to really find something that one can completely call their own.
Rahu in Gemini, Ketu in Sagittarius in the natal chart: trying to be heard, the native expresses himself for the world to listen to. Ketu has the person locked into a state of singular beliefs. Typically a person that can come off as being over-confident. A speaker, a motivator; tries to rally the troops. Enlightenment comes when the native realizes that one’s own beliefs are a reflection of the environment and life experiences, that life is more fluid and less exact than they once thought; beliefs are interconnected and there are other ways outside of their pre-conceived notions.
Rahu in Cancer, Ketu in Capricorn in the natal chart: a desire to become a parental figure or building a home. Ketu has the native locked into a state of self-preservation. In order to have stability, one must accept global goals and help oneself and others move towards long-term plans. Typically creates an impenetrable boundary around the native’s life and family, and everyone else. Enlightenment comes when one realizes that stability and long-term goals are interlinked and it is impossible to have stability without thinking ahead and creating some sort of goal.
Rahu in Leo, Ketu in Aquarius in the natal chart: wants to show the world their talent and creative abilities. Eccentric, flashy; tries to lead. Ketu has the native locked into a natural state of attempting to force society to realize its worth. Enlightenment comes when the native realizes that creativity is defined by the masses and that it is impossible to escape the influence of society on creativity.
Rahu in Virgo, Ketu in Pisces in the natal chart: Ketu has locked the person into a state of disconnection, always jumping from one thing to another. The person typically tries to find a cause to stand up for or some sort of individual purpose. Might shift from one niche to the next. A wanderer, constantly trying to figure out who they are and what they want. Enlightenment comes by realizing that all beings suffer in one way or another, and that it is really one’s own mind that is the cause and the victim.
Rahu in Libra, Ketu in Aries in the natal chart: trying to create harmony and balance in the world. Ketu has locked the individual into a natural state of action. Constantly tries to help people. Always in perpetual motion, always trying to please the people around them; always trying to work for some purpose. Enlightenment comes when the person realizes that the world we live in is created around our perceptual mainframe. You can’t escape who you are yet you can’t completely give everything to the world without first realizing that you are a part of the world.
Rahu in Scorpio, Ketu in Taurus in the natal chart: trying to penetrate the secrets of the world, a desire to understand on a psychological level. Usually lives with the knowledge that all things change with time. Ketu has locked the person into evaluating culture, values, and how everything changes over time. An observer of change and how time affects everything. Wants to know the mysteries of life, wants something more than material existence. Enlightenment comes when one realizes that one moment is just as precious as the next, and that every moment combines together to create the whole. That though time changes everything, the values that we have in the moment are just as important as the entire global purpose of everything. That each value combines to create the whole, and without the values that exist in time; time is meaningless.
Rahu in Sagittarius, Ketu in Gemini in the natal chart: trying to find the purpose of life. An explorer of beliefs. Ketu has naturally locked the person into a state of interaction, constantly attempting to interact with people and explore esotericism in an attempt to further their own understanding. Attempts to penetrate into the perfect belief system. Unable to realize that all beliefs come from others and that we are in a constant state of information exchange. Enlightenment comes when one sees that the truth lies within oneself and without the influence of other people’s beliefs and absolute theories.
Rahu in Capricorn, Ketu in Cancer in the natal chart: works towards structure, thinks globally. Ketu has the native naturally locked into looking at the flaws in every situation. A universal thinker, typically treats everyone the same. An inability to relax and settle. Struggles to live in the moment, typically overlooks the feelings and emotions of others. A long-term planning style that attempts to be impersonal, unable to account for the emotions of others; leaving flaws in their framework which typically leads to frustration. Enlightenment comes when one realizes why people want things and that all things and ideas are developed out of personal need. The native needs to see the emotional reasons that hide behind people’s actions and to understand how to nurture oneself and others without neglecting personal goals.
Rahu in Aquarius, Ketu in Leo in the natal chart: strives to work towards an ideal and a goal. Ketu has the native naturally locked into attempting to push an idea forward to the forefront. An activist. Fiery; might struggle to achieve a goal until the end. Enlightenment comes when one realizes that all ideals are personal and imperfect. Then and only then will the person be able to have some release from the confines of the ideal.
Rahu in Pisces, Ketu in Virgo in the natal chart: striving for chaos, to become pure energy. Ketu has the native naturally locked into the state of the observer. Sees the world through his/her own eyes. Feels separated or unique. Knows that all thought is inherently flawed. Wants to be free, wants to be released. Typically likes to go against the common opinion, often takes up for the condemned. Knows that morals are man-made. Good at reading into the motivations of others. Often feels purposeless, trapped in the confines of their mind. Enlightenment comes when one realizes that perception is reality and that escaping our mind would be escaping what makes us who we are. Attachment leads to detachment, detachment leads to attachment. One must realize that though we are a part of the whole, the whole cannot exist without its piece. We are not only a part of the whole, but that the entirety of the whole exists within us, as it defines who we are.
